Tuta Mionki: Breaking Barriers as the First Kenyan Woman Chairperson of the Stewards at the Pearl of Africa Rally 2024

In a monumental stride for gender equality and motorsport representation, Tuta Mionki makes history as the first Kenyan woman to assume the role of Chairperson of the Stewards at the prestigious Shell V-power Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally  2024. Her remarkable journey to this position not only underscores her passion for motorsport but also highlights the ongoing efforts to diversify and empower women in traditionally male-dominated fields.

The Pearl of Africa Rally, known for its challenging terrain and thrilling competition, has long been a hallmark event in the Africa rally championship calendar, attracting skilled drivers and enthusiasts from around the continent and further. As the pinnacle rallying event in Uganda, it serves as a platform for drivers to showcase their talent and for fans to witness exhilarating races amid breathtaking landscapes.

Tuta Mionki’s, many motorsport awards include 

  • 2018 Kenya Motorsport personality of the year
  • 2015 Kenya Division 3 Champion Navigator
  • 2016 Kenya 2WD Champion Navigator 

Tuta has also been a motor sport official with years of experience under her belt, the appointment as Chairperson of the Stewards represents a significant milestone in her career. Born and raised in Kenya, Mionki developed a deep-seated passion for motorsport from a young age, inspired by the adrenaline-fueled races that captivated her imagination. Despite facing societal norms and stereotypes, she pursued her passion with unwavering determination, breaking barriers and carving a niche for herself in the male-dominated world of motorsports.

As Chairperson of the Stewards at the Pearl of Africa Rally, Mionki will play a pivotal role in ensuring the fair and impartial conduct of the event.  Her responsibilities will include overseeing the implementation of rules and regulations, adjudicating disputes, and upholding the integrity of the competition. With her keen attention to detail and unwavering commitment to excellence, we are confident she will perform beyond expectations. 

Beyond her individual achievements, Mionki’s historic appointment serves as an inspiration to aspiring female officials and drivers across Africa and beyond.
