Series leader Azaad Manji is overly excited with his new modified Attacker1 Buggy.
The 2WD Non Turbo driver says the new machine suits his driving style and should serve up great moments ahead for his fairly tale title challenge.
“The new buggy’s performance is spectacular and suits my driving style so hoping to take all wins this season,” quipped Azaad, who savored back to back wins at the KCB Kenya National Autocross Championship round 2 at Kasarani.
The race was organised by Rallye Sports Club (RSC).
Azaad, a former Motocross star, was also in imperious form as he won the opening round of the series at The Waterfront Karen racetrack last month. He is now glad that the new machine is already displaying unbeatable pace on his first race outing with it.
Azaad powered to his second win in a row at the WRC Safari Rally racetrack in Kasarani on Sunday to build a considerable lead on the log with just two of the season’s 10 rounds gone.
“It’s been a great feeling racing in the WRC Safari Rally racetrack. We had a good run but the track was wet in the morning heats so it was a mix of muddy and dry as the race wore on. My plan this season is to take the first Championship, so let’s see how it goes. I have changed my buggy and have made few modifications that suit my driving style. The new buggy has a new launch control, fully mapped with Motec ECU and bigger injectors,” Azaad said.
Shaz Esmail aka Coach is Azaad:s trainer and this is what he had to say: “In the first two events we’ve seen great improvement, and how strong Azaad is on the new Buggy. We have put in some better oil coolers, intercooler sprayers and a hydraulic hand brake.”
The event saw KNRC Premier.Class ace Eric Bengi beat defending champion Sahib Omar to 4WD Turbo honors.
Gurraj Singh won the quad class beating champion Wayne Fernandes for the second event running.
Rehan Shah beat Baldev Chager by mili seconds to win the 4WD Turbo Class.
Bambino Class honors went to Karamveer Singh who beat another defending champion Yuvraj Rajput.
Junior 2WD NT Buggy class was won by newcomer Neel Gohil in a total time of 16.08.58minutes.
Speaking during Prize Giving, KCB Branch Manager Kasarani, Mr Anthony Murigi Mwangi said the Bank is committed to sports development in the country. “We are confident that like we’ve done in motorsport in general, autocross will continue to grow and the series shall be part of the larger global event.” Said Mr Mwangi.
The Autocross series is sponsored by KCB Bank Kenya under the Kenya Motor Sports Federation.
The next round of the National Autocross series heads to Eldoret on the weekend of March 13-14.
