“I can confirm that WRC Promoter has had constructive and positive talks with Mr Phineas Kimathi regarding the Safari Rally.
We recognise the Safari’s long and proud history in the FIA World Rally Championship and the place it holds in the hearts of Kenya’s population. We welcome the sincere passion and the strong efforts and commitment which the country’s government and the Kenya Motorsports Federation is injecting into the project of returning the WRC to Africa.
We are committed to hosting a WRC round on the African continent in the near future and will continue to work closely alongside the government and federation with the goal of seeing the Safari Rally back on the WRC calendar.
The organisation of a WRC round is a major undertaking for a local promoter. To achieve the high standards required in key areas such as sporting, safety and promotion demands considerable expertise and financial investment.
As championship promoter, we must exercise the utmost diligence on behalf of our participating teams and fans to ensure a WRC round reaches those standards. This is the challenge that faces the Kenyan authorities, but we’re optimistic they can rise to that and we will provide all the necessary support to help them achieve their target.”
